As the most senior medical professional in the health service, you will:

  • Provide effective professional leadership and management of medical services across the Health Service to inform and influence the direction and achievement of our strategic and operational goals

  • Provide strategic oversight of all clinical governance matters, including leading patient safety and clinical excellence through the implementation of clinical quality and safety programs

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of clinical governance functions, including quality, accreditation, incident management and patient safety through a contemporary inter-disciplinary model

  • Provide strategic advice regarding improvements in patient safety, clinical systems, research, education and clinical matters

  • Work in partnership with the professional leads for Nursing and Midwifery and Allied Health in relation to clinical governance and quality and safety matters

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of the medical workforce unit with accountability for the systems and processes for medical officer appointments including credentialing and scope of clinical practice

  • Build medical workforce sustainability and align workforce planning to strategic and service planning in collaboration with operational directors and People and Culture Division

  • Maintain a professional role in coaching, mentoring and advising Clinical Directors on professional performance matters

  • Support a strong active research base that builds our capabilities in education, research and innovation, with a focus on improving the health of our community

  • Build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with university partners and external agencies

  • Contribute to a culture that values health and safety, minimising risk and upholding our core values.  


  • Possession of qualifications and experience appropriate for registration as a Specialist in Medical Administration by the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency.

  • A postgraduate qualification, Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA), or equivalent, is highly desirable.

  • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing Continuing Medical Education program with the appropriate bodies.

  • Demonstrated experience at an executive / senior level in driving a culture of professional medical administration and governance, inclusive of issues relating to medical workforce, medical professional practice, clinical governance, ethics, education, training and research and clinical leadership

  • Ability to build a cohesive and high performing management team that is characterised by team work, open discussion, strong morale and a focus on results

  • Experience in clinical strategic planning and clinical leadership for the provision of programs and services

  • The ability to exercise sound judgement in a high pressure environment

  • The ability to adopt a system-wide view of issues, and draw on a range of information, ideas and perspectives to understand problems within complex organisations to improve performance
