University Masters Degree Programs Print E-mail

Candidates are required to complete an approved university masters degree study program to provide the theoretical underpinning to the experiential components of the fellowship training program in medical administration.

It is not a requirement to have this masters degree completed before commencing as a candidate. The study may be undertaken while a candidate.

When a doctor makes application to be a candidate with RACMA, their formal academic study requirements will be assessed by the Censor in Chief. There is an opportunity to have relevant previous studies recognised in full or in part. Sometimes candidates are required to do single units in specific university subjects to meet the requirements of the College's training program.

Master of Business Administration programmes are increasingly offered by most Australian universities and may satisfy College requirements. Candidates who prefer to undertake an MBA should discuss the subject content of their proposed degree program with the College first. It is essential to meet the College's core content requirements.

The Master of Health Management at the University of New South Wales has been the degree most commonly selected by candidates. It is not the only academic program however that meets all College requirements. Some university masters programs are available in off-campus mode and this suits some candidates. Some universities will recognise particular units studied at another university, up to a set percentage of their own program requirements. So you may be able to achieve a mix of on campus and fill gaps with off-campus studies.

Graduate Diploma courses do not satisfy the College requirements for Fellowship. In some instances universities may give credit for subjects completed at Graduate Diploma level towards a Masters degree. Any candidate who has completed a Graduate Diploma would need to discuss this matter with the relevant university and confirm the suitability of their planned study program with the College.

Candidates are required to make their own arrangements to enrol in an approved course of study and are strongly urged to contact their preferred tertiary institution at least six months prior to their expected commencement date to obtain advice on enrolment procedures. Higher education fees for Masters programmes may be levied by the university in which you enrol. These fees can vary. It is the candidate's own choice about the level of fees they pay - this is not a College choice.

Listed below are some courses recently undertaken by Candidates that have complied with RACMA Core Requirements.  This list is not exhaustive and, as courses are continually evolving, it is important to check with the university in the first instance.
